Maria Luisa Melendo
Maria Luisa Melendo (Belgium) is a visual artist with a background in humanities and art history. Raised in Spain, her Brussels atelier serves as a space for research and experimentation across various mediums. Through her ceramic jewelry, she celebrates nature’s raw beauty while continuously exploring innovative techniques—embedding red clay in white porcelain plaques, experimenting with porcelain’s drying processes, and applying glazes and oxides with an intuitive sense of color reminiscent of painting on canvas.
Her work has been exhibited in Milan and Madrid, alongside shows in Belgium. She also collaborates with museums and fashion brands, bridging the worlds of art, design, and craftsmanship. Her collection examines the interconnected themes of holding, supporting, and enclosing, prompting reflection on the delicate balance between carrying and being carried, keeping and protecting. Through her work, Melendo invites contemplation on the spaces we occupy, the choices we embrace, and the boundaries we define.
