Merchandising and Inventory Associate – Jewelry

(Full-Time / Permanent)

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) seeks a Merchandising and Inventory Associate.  This position supports the Jewelry and Wearables categories at the Store at MAD and reports to the Director of Merchandising. They are primarily responsible for entering, receiving, ticketing and merchandising moderately priced and fine jewelry, as well as wearables. They will be responsible for coordinating custom orders, following up with vendors, repairs and customer service-related inquiries. Candidate should possess an interest and/or knowledge of the arts, especially art, craft, and design, with an eagerness to learn about MAD’s collection as well as its history, mission, and programming.

COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE

This is an onsite, non-exempt position with compensation of $22.00 hourly. Sample scheduled hours will be 9:30 am–6:30 pm, with flexible days.

Duties/Responsibilities

Merchandising and Inventory Associate

  • Creates SKUs in Shopify, Purchase Orders in Stocky, receives tickets and reconciles invoices.
  • Supports Purchasing Manager with vendor relationships and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Maintains high standards in merchandise handling, jewelry maintenance, presentation and loss prevention. This includes the regular cleaning of display shelves and jewelry cases.
  • Provides training to Store team on all new jewelry and wearable artists, providing feedback on content, metal, and carats.
  • Creates and manages an updated vendor list organized by moderately priced, fine jewelry, and wearable artists. This includes stocking copies of artist bios, dust bags, branded packaging and artist cards for individual jewelry cases.  
  • Performs various back-end transactions including entering product with accurate descriptions, checking stock levels, doing daily and weekly counts of fine jewelry artists and liaising with customers when custom sales are shipped either to MAD or to them directly.
  • Meets with Purchasing Manager regularly regarding inventory levels and oversees organization of backstock between locations.
  • Refreshes floor merchandise displays on a regular basis, either before opening or after closing.
  • Oversees returns to vendors including packing, creating shipping labels, tracking and in Store administrative paperwork. 

Merchandising and Inventory Associate

  • Ensures consistent vendor communications and tracking of purchased and consignment inventory.
  • Provide reporting and feedback on a regular basis to the Director of Merchandising.
  • Handles all fine jewelry special orders, repairs, and customer service follow-up.
  • Actively participates in the planning and execution of Special Events and Trunk Shows.
  • Attends training and further development meetings as scheduled by the Director of Merchandising. 

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Detail Oriented, motivated, results driven, strong communication skills
  • Previous experience working in jewelry, accessories and wearables
  • Excellent customer service skills with accuracy being critical
  • Proficiency with Shopify and Microsoft Outlook/email.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Additional Preferences

  • 3-4 years of jewelry and luxury goods experience
  • Previous experience working in fine jewelry is a plus
