Yuka Taniai
Yuka Taniai (Japan) sees the act of dressing up as wearing light, and explores the expression of light using unique contemporary materials such as acrylic and nylon, utilizing transparency and reflection. She forms three-dimensional structures while applying metalworking techniques. Her original technique of drilling holes and threading nylon threads repeatedly by hand and layering them gave concrete form to time within each piece. For this, the creation process is also given meaning as a part of her work. While natural or artificial light provides her with a great deal of inspiration, in recent years she has placed particular focus on phenomena such as sunlight, wind, and flowing water. By creating works that give form to metaphysical phenomena that pass away in an instant, she creates jewelry as fragments that transcend time and space.
