Gillian Finlay
Gillian Finlay (Scotland) is a jewelry artist whose work is deeply influenced by her formative years in Hong Kong and the striking bamboo scaffolding that enveloped the city’s towering skyline. She relocated to Scotland to study jewelry and silversmithing, earning First-Class Honors. Now based in Edinburgh, she has exhibited extensively across the United Kingdom, including in London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.
Finlay’s creative practice reinterprets the dynamic, organic flow of bamboo scaffolding through the meticulous manipulation of precious metal wire. By folding, pleating, and pinching the material, she transforms rigid structures into intricate, playful forms that balance strength and delicacy. Her work captures the tension between structure and fluidity, reflecting the contradictions inherent in the scaffolding that inspired her.
In 2024, Finlay was selected by The Goldsmith’s Centre as a new talent jeweler to participate in the prestigious Shine Programme and Exhibition.
